At Condrell Primary Care, we often remind our patients that vaccinations aren’t just for kids. Staying up to date on adult vaccines is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect your long-term health. See below for a quick vaccine guide:

Influenza (Flu) Vaccine

When: Every year, ideally in the early fall (October-November)
Who: All adults, especially those with chronic health conditions or weakened immune systems

We carry both the standard-dose and high-dose flu vaccines in our office. The high-dose version is specifically designed for adults 65 and older, providing a stronger immune response.

Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis)

When: Adults need a booster with Td or Tdap every 10 years
Who: All adults; especially important for those who are around newborns or pregnant women to help prevent whooping cough

We administer Tdap in-office at Condrell Primary Care. If you haven’t had a booster in the past decade, now is the time to schedule it.

COVID-19 Vaccine

When: Follow CDC recommendations. Currently, we recommend that adults should receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine annually
Who: All adults 18+

COVID-19 vaccines continue to protect against severe disease and hospitalization. We recommend getting your COVID-19 booster at your local pharmacy, where supply and scheduling are most flexible.

Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) Vaccine

Who:

  • Adults 50 and older should receive the updated pneumococcal vaccine: one dose of the PCV21. Alternative options include: one dose of the PCV20, or the PCV15 followed by the PCV23.
  • Adults under 50 with chronic heart, lung, or immune conditions may also qualify.

This vaccine helps prevent pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and meningitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. These vaccines are available at most pharmacies. Of note: not an annual vaccine.

Shingles (Zoster) Vaccine

When: Two doses, the second given 2–6 months after the first dose
Who: Adults 50 and older, even if you’ve had shingles before, or never had chicken pox

The shingles vaccine (Shingrix) reduces your risk of painful shingles outbreaks and long-term nerve complications. It’s available at most pharmacies.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) Vaccine

When: One-time dose for most adults
Who:

  • Adults 60 years and older, after discussion with their healthcare provide
  • Adults 18–59 with chronic heart, lung, or immune conditions may also be eligible

RSV is a common respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in older adults, babies, and those with chronic health conditions. This vaccine helps prevent lower respiratory tract disease and hospitalization. This vaccine is available at most pharmacies. Of note: not an annual vaccine.

HPV Vaccine (Human Papillomavirus)

When: 3 doses: 0, 2 months, and 6 months after the first.
Who: All adults through age 26, and adults 27–45 after discussing risks and benefits with their provider

HPV vaccination helps prevent several types of cancer, including cervical, anal, and throat cancers.

Hepatitis A and B Vaccines

When: Two doses of HepA (Dose 2: 6-18 months after Dose 1), Three doses of HepB (Dose 1: At any time, Dose 2: 1-2 months after Dose 1, Dose 3: 4-6 months after Dose 1)

Who: Adults at higher risk including healthcare workers, travelers, and those with chronic liver conditions

These vaccines protect against serious viral liver infections. Your provider can help determine if they’re appropriate for you.

If you’re unsure which vaccines you’ve received or when your next booster is due, schedule your annual physical or vaccine review appointment with us. We’ll review your record, identify any gaps, and keep your preventive care on track.
